And now about the scoot

Darth the scoot is in bad shape with damage that I inflicted by stupidity. I was looking for a shortcut from Yumy back to the camp area without traveling on a very windy freeway. Unfortunately I made an unwise decision to take it off pavement, then off hard pack road onto a sandy road. I got stuck in a sand pit that seemed bottomless.

I called a tow service by random selection. They could not get to me because they did not have a 4WD. They charged me $140 to come out and tell me that. Then they gave me a ride to another service that did have 4WD equipment. They simply said $150/hour, spent 3 hours, but gave me a break by charging me for 2 hours. They loaded it on my trailer at the site of bad decision..

So after spending $440, I had an un-drivable scoot due to damage inflicted on it by my trying yo get out of the sand pit. I think the wheel spokes grabbed a rock and carried it around with considerable force as the rear tire spun in the axle deep sand. At this time I think the reason the rear wheel will not turn is due to a broken and jammed parking brake mechanism.

I have posted pics on a forum where I hopecto get some expert opinions. But it looks like a dealer repair to me. I will either get it repaired or park it in the garage and take the truck with me. On top of a roof and dental work, I did not need a big scoot repair bill.

This has not been a friendly holiday.

Roof on the ground

Roofs are supposed to be high, on top of the house. But upon returning home I noted that many of my shingles were located in the wrong location, on the ground. Apparently some of the strong wind experienced near Yumy also hit here. I am afraid to leave the roof in the current condition.

The insurance said to get an estimate, which will happen tomorrow. So I as yet do not know if it repairable or must be replaced, nor how much the insurance will participate above the $500 deductible. In this area insurance is not very proactive when it comes to replacing roofs.

Mexico dental work status

The first excursion to a dentist recommended by an acquaintance resulted in a quote of $18,000 to cap all remaining teeth, bridge them together and produce the sparkling smile of an old snaggle-toothed movie star while providing the functionality for eating. If I had the money, I would go for it. Hell, one only lives once, and not much more time at that. Why not go to the incinerator with a sparkling smile?

Home agin, home agin

I was not planning on this trip home, but circumstances dictated it. More on that later.

A sleep-in at the casino in Tucson, dallying around a while to wait for the sun to get out of my eyes while driving, arrival at home was noonish. There were several RVs overnighting at the casino, all parked in the back of the back lot. Since there was no live show going on there was plenty of space in the empty back parking lot. Unfortunately they provide no electric hookups as it was about 30 degrees cold when the sun came up today in Tucson. My planned after-dinner trek back to the slots did not materialize. The bed looked better than the slots.

Some catching up

After staying on Ogilby Road, West of Tucson, I left the Yumy area and headed for home, the house that is. Sometimes it is difficult to remember where is home, and where is not. Due to the holiday timing of BLM officer visits to the free access area I managed to squeak in three weeks instead of the allowed two weeks. While there a few trips to Yumy were made mostly for supplies and mail. Ironically, circumstances have prevented my from reading the one delivery that I scheduled since I left home, er, the house.

I also made one quick trip across the border. Neighbor Steve took me to the border in his vehicle as he wanted to go also. Uneventful.

At Ogilby I had plans to accomplish a lot. Clean Barth (Sound familiar? Same success as at home), work on budget (Has no real solution. Remember those imaginary numbers in algebra?), make some money in the stock market (not!), and trim down expenses (blew that one dramatically).

I will fill in the gaps in the next couple of days.
