Arrived at Apache Creek from Quemado Lake mid day. Weather is threatening. This is a free CG as was Lake Quemodo and Jackson Park. The only camp site that was unoccupied drew Lone like a magnet as I drove through the entire CG. According to Dan and Mary Alice, from Show Low, here for the rock hound rendezvous, the occupants just left this morning. I continue to have random bits of luck.
A short trip to Reserve for a couple items was in order as first order of business.
But first, the traditional picture of Barth sitting away from the large trees to capture maximum solar on her bonnet.
The trip to reserve served a few purposes. Since I parred down the junk I haul with me this year, of course I am now hunting about to re-buy stuff left at home. Off to Reserve, the county seat, we went. Lone and I.
First order of business was to find a hardware store. The only one is going out of business and is half stocked, no re-stocking. A lost cause.
At the grocery store a tube of super glue was located. This is needed to fix a knob for the gas stove that broke.
The grocery cashier was quizzed about potential RV parking in the fair grounds. Small towns often allow that. She suggested a trip to the Commissioner’s office in the Catron County Court House on the other end of town. About 20 steps and I was there.
Only a clerk was in the Commissioner’s office. Charlie. She said, paraphrasing, that she was only a clerk and had not the authority to tell me, but she did not see why not. Go ahead, unless the Sheriff runs you out.
To that I responded that if the Sheriff showed up, I would tell him that the Commissioner’s office said it was ok, that Charlie said to park. And so we left it at that. But Barth will remain at the current location unless the rockhounders get too rowdy. Somehow I do not envision rockhounders being a rowdy bunch.
So that is the news from Apache Creek.
