Cookouts

I previously mentioned John’s birthday party. Below are a couple of pictures I obtained from Don. Note the small log “card room” with a loft that he has added to his property. In one of the pictures his Airstream trailer can be seen.

And below are a couple of pictures of the cookout that George hosted, providing and cooking all the burgers, all three that I had! Others offered condiments and side dishes. The most unusual side dish was Carrol’s candied(?) carrots. What did I offer? Being unimaginative as usual, only onions and prepackaged potato salad.

George number 2. George appears in the far back in both pictures. Yours truly is the only one wearing a cap, on the right.

Don’s camp pics

A few people pics at Don’s Retreat.

George is a local electronics expert, being a ham. I could help, but I have retired.

John was delivering the saw horses that he borrowed from George. It seems that this small informal LoWs community has, between them, almost anything they might need, give, loan, sell or barter as required. I am working on George to sell to me a 2-meter ham rig, as he obviously has more stuff than he needs.
George and John

Don owns the lot where I am parked. Visitors clean and/or provide maintenance to help out.

I am still looking for a lake around here. But John obviously has already found it.

Almost everything in the community is decorated (read: customized) to suit their taste.

Don’s Camp pics of the day

A lazy bunch. I saw Joy overheating while trying to get bushes out of the ground with the wrong tools, so I decided to give her a hand, rather a shovel. Her objective is to turn the 1 acre lot into a fancy arboretum by fall.

Don and Barbara were grocery shopping. George was chilling out to music inside. Jack is absent, at home in Safford to see a doctor to schedule knee surgery.

Joy took me around to all the nearby lots with campsites. This is a summer ‘retreat’ of many LoWs who own lots here.

But here are a few snapshots.

Barth and friends.

Rigs of Don, Barbara, and George.

The rig of Jack.

The rig of Joy

Joy prunes and cleans the forest.

Just Joy. Everyone else was inside napping.

The morning coffee and evening communion gathering place.

First weekend at Don’s Retreat

There are several LoW’s (Loners on Wheels) and ex-LoW’s located in this forsaken development. One of them, John I believe, hosted a birthday party for himself today, providing a spread of food (not potluck, mind you) and a band. There were probably 30-40 peeps there. Free food always brings out the best in us! Or perhaps brings out all of us!

A good time was had, though at about the beginning of hour three my limited tolerance level for large crowds pushed me to being the first to leave. Like I said earlier, good folks here. And the price to park is right ($0) though I will probably somehow pitch in some labor to help with some maintenance item.

Arrival: Camp Don’s Retreat

Camping with a few LoW’s members on a 1 acre parcel owned by Don west of Concho, AZ. I haven’t met or don’t know most of them yet. But being LoWs, I am sure they are nice folks. There are about six RVs boondocking here and the price is right.

I am here because Jack, whom I met in NM earlier in the year, offered an invitation, sort of. Anyways I accepted whether he offered or not!

It is very quiet and peaceful here. Jack showed me around some today, but the trip ended up as me showing him around as I took him house-looking. We looked at a small log cabin on 40 acres. It is off-grid solar, has a well. It also has a great view.

Nah, I need to be selling, not trading!
