Slim, trim, svelte

Slim. That is what most of the campers in this National Park have in common. Equipment ranges for sleeping in a car, sleeping in back pack tents, to living in large motor homes.

Trim. Age ranges from toddlers through middle age to 80′s. Makes little difference.

Svelte, There are many foreign tourists here. They seem to be more trim. Very few of the spare tires such as I have around foreigners or citizens..

So the muse of the day is… does the outdoor life encourage better health, or does better health enable and encourage the outdoor life? Though I never become anywhere near slim, trim, svelte, I do loose weight during my summer travels.

And the second muse is… where were all these slim, trim, svelte, women when I was younger? Perhaps I was staying home with the unslim, untrim, unsvelt crowd.

Bouncing camp grounds at Zion

The first night (Thur.) was at a commercial CG just outside the park ($35) West end. I could not go through the tunnel at the East end because of overall length exceeding 50 ft. so had to drive the long way to get to the Weat entrance. After waiting for L. Ranger to be released from the sanitarium in Page, I arrived too late to obtain an in-park site.

Friday I moved to the South CG, dry camping ($8 GAP rate). Sunday I move to the reserved site at Watchman CG ($9 GAP rate) with electric hookup until the move to Bryce NP.

Temps vary from 50′s to high 80′s. Two thunderstorms accompanied by rain interrupted my attempt to shovel NM mud from Barth. Alas, it will probably rain again today. I am beginning to miss the weather in dry Southeastern AZ due to encountering showers and rain.

Today I will complete house cleaning, take a drive, take pictures to post here.

Arrival: Camp Zion Canyon CG

I arrived mid afternoon, driving from Page, AZ. Uneventful drive, many areas with beautiful scenery. I wanted to stay at Page for another night or so, but the weather was warm in uncooled RV, so I departed as soon as I retrieved L. Ranger.

I have done no site seeing yet. There is plenty time for that, and I have been here before which dulls the urgency. More later.

This is a commercial park, $35/day. Nice enough, with enough room to walk between the RVs without hitting one’s head on the slides. I am prone to do that even in the middle of an open desert. I was having difficulty making the turn into my site as it was tight. My ‘neighbor’ came out and told me that he had the same problem, and showed me how to make a loop and get an almost straight shot into the space. Most helpful.

I was going to move to the dry camp CG tomorrow, but I have major chores to do cleaning Barth. With temp forcasts of 87 degrees, I will probably stay here to keep cool.

TV selection consists of PBS and CBS. Since CBS has mostly a zillion hours of CSI incarnations, TV is a wasteland.

I finally found a pressure cooker at Uncle Wally’s in Page. One item was on sale for $15. Snatched it and ran, feeling guilty.

Annie T. Dog is accustomed to a substantial ‘out’ time while staying in the NM parks. Tonight she is driving me crazy. wanting outside. Maybe it is because she feels better because I gave her a baby aspirin also known as “aspirin regimen” dosage.
