New stove top!

Ok, just a short addition. Since I am plugged into electrical connections so infrequently, I found the electric stove top unusable most of the time, and the need to use a free standing propane stove to cook, a royal nuisance.

I have now replaced the electric unit with a propane unit. though expensive, the propane unit is made by the same manufacturer and fits into the same cutout as the electric unit. It is an up-scale cook top, looks as if it were always there, and the high quality is a perfect compliment to the reputation of the Barth attention to details.

If I weren’t a procrastinator I would have accomplished this task four years ago.

Oh yeah, I sold the electric unit, which I had maintained like new, for a respectable price on craigslist to partially offset the cost of the propane unit.

Eye Stats 2

Well, well. My eyesight issue has been deferred for one year.

I was at the MVD to acquire some mis-mailed registration yesterday. I gave my license to the clerk for my name/address. She noted that the address on my license was one digit off, 639 vs. 629, that in my record.

I got my registrations straight, then she asked if I wanted to update my drivers license address and get a new duplicate, or did I just want to wait until I renew it next year.

“Huh? Let me see that.!” said I. After close scrutiny, and re-confirmation of the clerk, the expiration date is in 2009, not 2008. But with my eyesight I had been misreading it to be 2008!

There seems to be some irony there, somewhere.

Funk, M$ Woes, HP Woes

Not much going on. I have been in a major funk for weeks, yea months, so not much has been accomplished. I am slowly pulling the covers down.

This weeks disaster has been Microsoft disasters. My computer started performing an instantaneous crash every time I try to print. After screwing around with their each support via email for days, I finally threw up my hands and id a clean disk reformat and reinstall. I hopefully saved most everything on an external HD. While I was at it, I backed up the desktop computer. It has a separate set of issues, including non-updating bootleg XP and a couple of dead HDs. One of these days I need to refurbish it with a new install from scratch for hardware and system.

The interesting thing is that the bootleg system that M$ has refused to update for years does not have any problems. The laptop with up-to-the-minute updates ceased operating normally long ago. So stay off my back about bootleg software; it works when the authentic M$ release does not work.

Annie-the-Dog ran by the laptop, tripped on the power cord, and pulled it off the table. Fortunately the HD and screen survived the crash to the floor even though it was powered on.

Now I still have the dyslexic keyboard that misses about one letter in ten. HP refuses to acknowledge that they have been shipping laptops with this problem for years (wonder why, could it be the operative ‘years’?). I am still struggling for a solution. So far the only surefire solution is to use an external keyboard. Is it worth $800 and up to solve this problem? Not on my budget – not right now.

This hasn’t helped my funk. But there is a moral here: DO NOT BUY HP COMPUTER PRODUCTS AT ANY PRICE!
