As usual, I put it off. Did not want to spend the money. But having done it, I should have done it four years ago.
That is, replace the electric cook top in Barth with a gas unit. With
my travel style, electric cook top is about as useful as the ‘hind
teats on a cow! And for you city dwellers, that is darn useless.
My main reason for the delay was because of the exorbitant cost of the
tiny two-burner unit cook top, no oven mind you. An outrageous $450.
For that I could have bought a new dishwasher for the house! That
manufacturer considers it’s items to be gold. But to maintain the
“looks” of Barth’s interior, as well as avoiding re-cutting the cutout
with a risk of ruining the Corian counter top, I took the easy way out
and bought the look-alike, same cutout drop-in gas unit. Much cheaper
units are available. But they have two drawbacks. They were smaller
than the existing cutout dimensions. And they looked cheap.
The only problem was the gas plumbing, something I am not comfortable
with. But armed with a pressure leak down gauge, an electronic gas
sniffer probe and a bottle of detergent for bubble testing I tackled
the job. My body does not bend the way it used to, and my cest does not
squeeze into tight places like it used to, so I had committed to a
project that would challenge my ingenuity.
I did finish the job successfully, although brute force may have had more to do with it than ingenuity!
Let me know if you need a Princess glass two-burner electric cook top
for a RV. I have one in excellent condition that will find it’s way to
ebay soon. I will also have a two burner plus broiler Rinnai standalone
stove for sale.
