Cuz @ Marietta, GA

Where is Marietta, GA? We arrived at this Dene’s home Sunday (yesterday). Barth is squeezed into a driveway barely long enough and wide enough to accommodate her. However, the satellite is visible, not blocked by trees. Seriously, I may have to conduct major tree surgery just to allow Barth to be removed from the driveway.

I got to see Dene’s newly purchased and remodeled home. It has a very unique floor plan, different from all other homes in the sub division, probably. The remodel upgrades make it look like a brand new home.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) we will probably go berry picking for some very fresh blueberries. Can you spell pie?

I traveled through some major rain showers when arriving in the Atlanta area Sunday, and the cloud cover has continued today, accompanied by a light occasional sprinkle of water. The temperature is perfect, but I have strong suspicions that this pleasant departure from the weather of last week will not continue.

Cuz @ Pelham, AL

Where is Pelham, Alabama? I visited cousin Ronnie in Pelham, AL for a week. But don’t go looking for him at the above coordinates, as these are simply the center of Pelham, not an exact location!

We had a nice visit, monitoring the progress of his daughter’s new home construction. We also took a sightseeing tour of the state capital building and museums at Montgomery.

I parked Barth on property of a neighbor that had a spot by the road that was a perfect fit for Barth. Unfortunately, trees blocked the satellite view, so I had no internet connection for a week. I went through severe withdrawal pains!

The only downside was the heat and humidity! I should’ve listened to Al and started this trip three months sooner!

Departing Twiltley Campground

Tomorrow we will depart Twiltley, headed for Birmingham about 9 am.

Twiltley’s Loblolly campground filled for the weekend. Fortunately I was in a site that provided more ‘clearance’ from other campers than most sites.

Today is a lounging day, after I give Barth a complete inside cleaning.

Earlier we drove to the earthen dam that forms Twiltley Lake. The dam appears to be between 1 and 2 miles long, probably closer to two. There is a paved walkway over the dam, but I was not energetic enough to try it.

A nice rain fell yesterday afternoon, cooling things a bit. Today is overcast and cool. I wouldn’t mind if it rains again today, or at least stays cloudy.

One thing one can be certain of; Corps of Engineer parks will always be by a lake.

Almost forgot to add: Jeep is doing ok, having added additional water twice. Apparently Billy the Mechanic was correct, just needed patience to get her full of coolant after replacing cracked pressure bottle. It seems that he overcharged me, but when was that unusual when trapped on the road going away from home!

Lounging About Twiltley

In Louisiana I could not pronounce any of the towns/places because they were a mix of French/Cajun. Now in Mississippi many of them seem to be Indian. I have no idea how to pronounce ‘Twiltley’!

I have been on the computer most all day. It is crawling because I am downloading a install CD from HP and have been FAPed. That means that I have overused my bandwidth and the download speed has slowed to a crawl.

I will mostly lounge about until my departure on Sunday. So far my destination is unknown, except toward or near Birmingham.

This place actually has a laundry, unusual for a government campground, so I will do my laundry before leaving. Mrs. Toni at Granat’s Collision offered to allow me to use her facilities at home to do laundry, but I thought that was a tad too invasive.

I have two UPS parcels to send when I can get a RMA number, and that may require a drive back to Meridian, as Collinsville barely has a grocery store, no traffic lights, and one caution light, much less a UPS drop!

Arrival in Mississippi

Where is Twiltley Branch Campground? I finally was released from the detention in Amite, LA! Barth is in pretty good shape after the plastic surgery, although a few details could have turned out a little better. I am glad that I spent the eight nights in the hot and humid LA weather to oversee the repairs. However, it would have been unbearable but for the kind hospitality and patience of putting up with me for eight nights. Mr. J, Mrs. Toni and the entire staff at Granate’s were very nice to me, from the morning pot of coffee, to entertaining me in their home, to having incredible patience as I stalked their every move. And Mr. J carted me around while Jeep was being looked after at Billy’s garage. And then there were the 10:30 am lunch runs to the local ‘deli’. I think I am gaining weight again, as my eating patterns have been completely disrupted.

I am now located in Twiltley Branch Campground, a Corps of Engineers facility on Okatibbee Lake. This is a nice campground, although the sites are slightly crowded for a COE campground. I called the campground on the way and was lucky to get the next to last site, and about the only site that allows me to hit the internet satellite through a hole in a tree. Since it did not have a reservation lien against it, I booked five nights here. Unfortunately I am exposed to the sun, an undesirable side effect of having a satellite dish on one’s roof top. But I do have a 30 amp electric connection for one half of my air conditioning.

The weather here is very humid, although cooler. But when the current cloud cover dissipates, the temperature may sky rocket.

Annie’s dog house heeds a deep cleaning, so that will be accomplished during this stop.
